As a child, I fondly remember sitting on my mother’s knee while she read me fairy tales. Such tales often recounted difficulties that a prince and princess had to undergo before reaching the end where they lived happily ever after. In real life, I want a happy ending, but I also want joy in the journey. A wise leader taught, “We all search for happiness and we all try to find our own happily ever after. All you have to do is trust your Heavenly Father, trust Him enough to follow His plan” (Dieter F. Uchtdorf). The Savior Jesus Christ has outlined a plan of principles, commandments and ordinances to safely navigate through life toward that happy ending while experiencing joy along the way. There are many voices in the world to draw us away from that plan. But I can demonstrate my trust in Christ by doing the things He has commanded, such as studying scriptures, praying in earnest, repenting when I err, loving and serving my fellowmen, and seeking the companionship of the Holy Ghost. These actions define my direction and ensure my ultimate happy ending. As I trust and follow the Savior’s plan, I am filled with joy along the way, even in the midst of life’s trials. I have discovered this to be the secret of enduring happiness.
