These words, “Thanks, but no thanks,” after being interviewed for a new job, can bring down the curtain of discouragement and cause me to lose hope. How can I maintain hope and avoid discouragement amid the many kinds of adversities in life? I believe that “hope is an abiding trust that the Lord will fulfill His promises…It is manifest in confidence, optimism, enthusiasm, and patient perseverance” (Preach My Gospel). The Lord promises that He will never leave me alone. “Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest” (Joshua 1:9). When I have hope, I push through my difficulties with confidence and assurance that all things will work together for my good. I am strengthened in ways I never expected. Pressing through trials with an attitude of hope helps me conquer discouragement. God will not always rescue me from every difficulty, but He will walk with me, teach me, and strengthen my shoulders to bear the burden. “Fear thou not; for I am with thee…I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee” (Isaiah 42:10 ). Sustaining me with hope is yet another Reason to Rejoice.
