Ever experience an extremely difficult circumstance in life? Ever feel that few things have gone the way we expected? Ever been so overwhelmed with pain that you feel immobilized for a while? I have experienced those times. But no matter how difficult, we must always remember that adversity is part of God’s plan for our growth. He weeps with us, walks with us, and guides us. We are never alone. God will reveal valuable lessons to be learned from every trial if we ask and look. During such times, these words of scripture comfort me: “Fear thou not; for I am with thee; be not dismayed; for I am thy God; I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness” (Isaiah 41:10). God will refine our rough ore into shining gold if we submit to His tutorials and never despair of His love. We can become stronger, better, and kinder. “What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us” (Ralph Waldo Emerson). What really matters is what these trials help us to become.
