When I was in elementary school, teams were formed during recess to play football, basketball, and baseball. There were a couple of self-appointed leaders who stepped up to select players for each team. No matter which team I was on, I played with competitive fervor. Today, with weighty matters on the line in deciding our nation’s laws, there are serious consequences in outcome. It does matter which team I am on. I am drawn to the words of Abraham Lincoln: “My concern is not whether God is on our side; my greatest concern is to be on God’s side, for God is always right.” There are several important issues being debated in our country today, with strong feelings expressed on all sides which have profound impacts on citizens as well as the country as a whole. It would be well for all of us to remember the words of our former great president, and be sure we take a stand in harmony with God’s commandments found in scripture. Whether in religious or secular issues, I will follow Abraham Lincoln’s direction and choose to be on the Lord’s side. I will stand up courageously in support of His unchanging truths. I enjoy singing the hymn, “Who’s on the Lord’s side, who? Now is the time to show. We ask it fearlessly: Who’s on the Lord’s side, who?” I want to be found there!
